Motherwell Community Priorities Highlights 26/27

Light Up Lanarkshire

This was a collaborative project between NHS Lanarkshire's Motherwell Health Improvement team, Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH), Community Partnership Team as well as the Mental Health Sub Group.

The project aimed to support the local outcome of mental health, tackling poverty and inequalities.

How did it come about?

Members of the sub group (Health Improvement, CPT and SAMH) worked together to gain the permissions to light up prominent buildings pink during mental health week, 11 to 17 May 2026. A communication document was created along with information for social media and distributed to all partners across North Lanarkshire, to strengthen the awareness around support for people's mental health.

What was the outcome?

The partnership with SAMH and the Local Outcome Improvement Plan (LOIP) sub group ensured that this campaign was promoted widely in line with actions from the LOIP sub group plan. This guaranteed the success of this initiative with Motherwell Civic Centre, the three acute sites across Lanarkshire and Newarthill Community garden all lit up pink to show support and solidarity for those with mental health issues.

NHS Lanarkshire, SAMH and the LOIP Partners are helping raise awareness and reinforce the message that mental health matters every day and Mental Health Awareness Week gives us an opportunity to reflect on how small everyday actions can positively impact wellbeing.
