Shotts Local Outcome Improvement Plan highlights 24/25

Shotts Mental Health Awareness Week

As part of Mental Health Awareness Week activities in May 2024, partners delivered a face-to-face Stigma Free Lanarkshire workshop at Springhill Hall in Shotts, supporting residents to increase their understanding of mental health and helping to reduce stigma within the community.

How did the project come about?

Local partners worked together to develop and deliver a Stigma Free Lanarkshire workshop in Shotts as part of Mental Health Awareness Week 2024. The initiative aimed to raise awareness of mental health, challenge stigma and support the wellbeing of local residents through community-based learning and discussion.

What was the outcome?

The event was successful with 42 participants in attendance. It brought residents together and delivered a range of benefits, including:

  • Increased awareness and understanding of mental health issues and the importance of seeking help as needed
  • Stronger community connections by fostering a sense of belonging and providing a platform for community members to support each other
  • Resource sharing through provision of important resources and information on mental health, helping community members access the support they need
  • Reduction of the stigma associated with mental health issues through participation and understanding
  • Improved wellbeing through participation in community activities as individuals felt more connected and supported

These outcomes contribute to a more supportive and understanding community, helping to improve the mental health and wellbeing of local residents.
