Wishaw Community Priorities highlights 25/26

The Community Partnership Team (CPT) along with other partners and prganisations facilitated information stalls and activities at the recent NHS Health Improvement Day, “Tea in the Garden”. The event, held in King George V Park in Wishaw, was organised by the NHS Health Improvement Team for the Wishaw and Shotts areas.

The CPT planned and facilitated a family Scavenger Hunt activity which highlighted the NLC capital investments through the Local Development Programme (LDP) in the park, namely the King George V Play Area and the Outdoor Gym.

To complete the Scavenger Hunt, which had nine clues, families moved around the park learning about the park and information on the Local Outcomes Improvement Plans priorities for Wishaw and Shotts and some of the health benefits of being outside, walking and having fun.

The Scavenger Hunt was a fun activity which raised awareness of free resources in people’s communities, ways people could get involved in their communities and how the CPT and Partners were working together to tackle Local Outcome Improvement Plan priorities including Health and Wellbeing, Tackling Poverty and Inequalities and Community Engagement to name a few.

At the end of the Scavenger Hunt participants were directed back to the CPT table to receive their certificate along with information leaflets and took part in a quick evaluation exercise involving speech bubbles to provide feedback about the activity, what they learned and any other comments they wished to make.

The Scavenger Hunt was available in paper and digital format to allow choice for families in what way they wanted to complete the activity. Most people opted for the paper version and undertook the activity as a group or family. Many people commented that they were unaware of the free resources available to them in their own communities and the activity had helped them gain some knowledge of how they could suggest LDP projects within their communities.  Many of the comments received from the participants acknowledged the benefit of the exercise in moving around the park completing the activity and how much they had enjoyed this and would come to the park more often to either visit the play area, gym or just walk around the edge of the football field and visit the community garden for some rest and relaxation.
