Youth Engagement and Consultation - Wishaw & Shotts
The aim of these sessions was to focus on community engagement and to allow young people to have their say.
Five workshops on raising awareness and increasing participation of young people within the Community Board structure were facilitated with young people living within the Fortissat and Wishaw areas. The workshops took place with the Calderhead High Pupil Council, Shotts Community Learning and Development Youth Forum, and the Pupil Voice group within St Aidan’s High School.
The workshops identified potential barriers and opportunities for more involvement amongst young people within the community board structure. The workshops also raised awareness with the young people attending of the Local Outcome Improvement Plans (LOIPs) for the Shotts and Wishaw areas. These workshops encouraged excellent discussion and ideas.
The project through community engagement identified key areas to focus on for the young people in being involved in the Community Board structure. They were able to set out design ideas for marketing materials which would highlight the Community Boards but be more youth friendly. They also discussed making videos to share good practice which could be shown at Community Board meetings rather than the young people attending meetings.
