Home education

Most children will attend school for their education, but parents do have the right to educate their children at home. If a parent chooses to do this, we have a duty to respond.

The agreement is on the basis that the lessons you plan will be suitable for the child's age, aptitude and ability, and for any additional needs your child may have.

If you decide to withdraw your child from school, we will contact you to:

  • discuss and get written confirmation of your intention and reasons
  • confirm your legal obligations as parent/carer educating your child at home
  • outline our duties and requirements
  • advise you of support available

Discussions will include the possibility of arranging for a member staff to visit to help you plan. This will be followed up with an annual review to see how you are getting on.

We will let you know if your plans are suitable, and if not, we'll discuss possible areas for improvement. If these improvements are not made, we may arrange for the child to attend school.
