Menu update
The primary school menu will change on Monday 19 April and run until the end of October. Please see below for details.
The Scottish Government introduced changes to the Nutritional standards for Food and Drink regulations in schools in April 2021.
The changes to the regulations are based on the most up to date scientific evidence on diet and health and are designed to support the health of children and young people in the school setting. The food and drink that is provided across the school day is designed to support progress towards the Scottish Dietary Goals. This will help to ensure that children and young people, especially those receiving free school meals, have access to nutritionally balanced school lunches.
In primary schools we have been working towards these changes over the last 18 months and all our main meals already include two portions of vegetables, fruit is available daily and plain milk or chilled water are served with the two-course lunch.
We would also like to continue to reassure parents that the school meal service has worked hard to provide a safe working environment and staff are working to Covid-19 protocols.
Price of a school meal
Due to financial pressures over the last few years, we can no longer afford to subsidise school meals.
The price of a primary school two-course lunch is now £3.10 We understand the impact that this may have on families and we do advise families who are eligible for free school meals to take this up. A free school meal entitlement is up to the value of the school meal price of £3.10 This includes all pupils from P1 to P3 who are entitled to a universal free school meal.
As you may be aware the Scottish Government announced on 9 March 2021 that Free School Meals will be provided to all P1 to 7 pupils by August 2022. We will be starting to prepare for this innovation during this year.
Payment methods
We have made changes to our payment methods in response to the Covid-19. This includes taking cash out of the process, which will help reduce the spread of the virus. Local solutions will be in place for anyone who is unable to sign up for online payments.
Pre-order service
The school takes a pre-order for pupils daily. Pupils can select their meal early in the morning and secure their meal of choice. This will then be rung through a till earlier in the day to deduct the money from the pupil's account. Through online payments, this will also allow you to see the balance and meal choice.
Medical and special diets
Please note, if your child has a food allergy or intolerance then you should speak to the Head Teacher/Catering Manager who will advise on the special diets procedure
