The work of the child protection committee
We believe that all children and young people in North Lanarkshire have the right to be cared for and protected from abuse and harm in a safe environment in which their rights are respected. This is the North Lanarkshire Child Protection Committee Vision.
We have a lead responsibility for multi-agency child protection policy and practice in North Lanarkshire and we promote co-operation and joint working across organisations for the protection of children.
The functions of Child Protection Committees across Scotland are set out in the National Guidance for Child Protection in Scotland updated 2023
These include working with partners to:
- undertake self-evaluation activity to help us understand how well we are doing and the best way to improve services
- have an oversight of multiagency procedures, protocols and guidance and develop and update these when required to improve our response to children and young people at risk
- develop and deliver training to help keep our workforce up to date with the skills and knowledge they need to help protect children
- raise awareness of child protection with everyone, including through the production of public information materials
Judith Tait is the independent Chair of North Lanarkshire Child Protection Committee and the committee includes representatives from a range of agencies including social work, education, the police, health and the third sector.
