Wishaw Community Priorities Highlights 26/27

Community Priority Engagement - St Aidan's High School

Delivery of engagement and consultation around the community priorities review in an interactive workshop to 5th year senior conference at St Aidan’s High School. This is to target young people using the youth survey for the community priorities review, to ensure that young people participate in this North Lanarkshire-wide consultation.

How did it come about?

Our community partnership team is leading, along with the North Lanarkshire Partnership, on the review of the local community priorities. As part of this review, we aim to engage and consult with young people as a key part of their communities to ensure they have their say and participate in the youth survey. We contacted St Aidan’s High School to arrange attending their senior conferences and were able to schedule a slot at the 5th year conference on 2 June, to deliver 6 interactive workshops on the local community priorities, reaching a total of 119 young people.

These workshops included a brief presentation describing the community partnership team and what it does, an explanation of Local Development Programme projects and how young people can be involved in community planning, as well as some interactive tasks to raise awareness around local community priorities, to encourage the young people to get involved and complete the youth survey.  The group tasks encouraged discussion and debate between the young people and led them on into the survey. Time at the end of each workshop was used for the young people to complete the survey and allow us to offer help if required.

What was the outcome?

These 6 workshops resulted in 103 full responses to the community priorities youth survey from the young people attending. These results are vital to ensure young people of this age group are participating in the decision-making process of the local community priorities and being enabled to engage in the process, ensuring their views are considered. This is particularly important as these next community priorities will be set for a period of 10 years and can influence and shape communities over this period, impacting on the young people's lives within their communities as they go into adulthood.
