Community Health and Wellbeing Activities

Note for CVS Organisations

North Lanarkshire Council is introducing guidance for organisations applying for funding to deliver health and wellbeing activities through our community grant programmes.

Community organisations play an important role in improving local wellbeing through activities such as physical activity programmes, walking groups, peer support, social connection projects, community gardening, creative wellbeing initiatives and other preventative activities. These types of projects continue to be welcomed and supported through our funding programmes.

This note aims to provide greater clarity about the types of activities that can be funded. Community grant funding is intended to support preventative, community-led and non-clinical wellbeing activity. It is not intended to fund medical treatment, clinical services or specialist therapeutic interventions that would normally be provided through regulated health services.

Where organisations are working with people who may be vulnerable or experiencing health challenges, we may ask for proportionate assurance that appropriate safeguards are in place. This may include evidence of safeguarding arrangements, suitable training or experience for staff and volunteers, risk assessments, insurance cover and clear signposting or referral arrangements to specialist services where required.

Any changes are intended to support good practice, protect participants and organisations, and ensure that funded activities operate safely and effectively. The approach reflects recognised public health and community planning principles while continuing to support innovation, early intervention and community wellbeing.

Further information will be included within future funding guidance and application materials. Organisations requiring advice or clarification are encouraged to contact the Community Partnership Team (Grants Section).
