Taxi Fare Review Consultation

We are undertaking a review of taxi fares and seeking the views of the licensed taxi trade across North Lanarkshire before reaching a decision on the proposed fare structure.

In developing the proposed fare structure, we have taken account of a range of factors affecting the operation of licensed taxi services, including fuel costs, insurance premiums, vehicle maintenance, licensing fees, regulatory requirements and other day to day business expenses.

The consultation will start on 7 September until 2 October 2026.

Details of the proposed changes are contained within the relevant committee report.

Summary of key proposals

The main proposals being considered are:

  • an increase in the starting fare
  • changes to the distance and waiting time charges
  • amendments to additional charges within the fare structure
  • updates to the overall fare scales to reflect the increased costs of operating a taxi service
