The school consists of a two-storey traditional sandstone building which dates from the 1920s. There are 15 functioning classrooms, an office, staffroom, dining hall and a central hall. The hall is used for assemblies and PE. We have a 50/50 Nursery class which was purpose built and is located across the school playground in a separate building with its own excellent outdoor areas.

We are unique in that although it is a mainstream school, we have hearing impaired pupils who are fully included within our mainstream classes.  We also line manage a service of peripatetic staff who support hearing impaired children throughout North Lanarkshire.

The school is staffed by a Head Teacher, Depute Head Teacher, 2 Principal Teachers, teaching staff, classroom assistants and additional support needs assistants.  We have teaching staff who are also trained teachers of the deaf.

Our Nursery class is staffed by a Lead Early Years Practitioner and Early Years Practitioners.

We have the support of a range of external agencies including Speech and Language Therapists, English as an Additional Language and Physiotherapists.

Letters and newsletters are sent out regularly informing parents of activities and events within school. Parents are invited to assemblies, services, shows and productions, workshops and presentations. We have an extremely supportive Parent Council who work in a variety of ways to support the school.

Pupils normally transfer from primary to secondary between the ages of 11.5 and 12.5 years so that they have the opportunity to complete at least four years of secondary education. Pupils from Glencairn Primary normally transfer to Dalziel High, Motherwell.
