The next stage of public consultation on the proposed East Airdrie Link Road starts today (25 September).
An updated road alignment is shown on maps, along with details of the proposed Towers Road Link, at EALR consultation | North Lanarkshire Council.
There is also information in response to questions and feedback made during the consultation carried out earlier this year.
Drop-in events will take place on
- Thursday 2 October, Caldervale High School, 5.00pm to 7.00pm
- Tuesday 7 October, Airdrie Library, 2:00pm to 7:00pm
- Thursday 9 October, Chapelhall Library, 2:00pm to 7:00pm, and
- Tuesday 21 October, Cumbernauld Library, 2:00pm to 7:00pm.
The consultation runs until 26 October. Comments received will inform the final road alignment which will be submitted in a full planning application.
The East Airdrie Road Link will be a single-carriageway road, running from just north of the M8, at the A73 Newhouse Interchange, to the A73 north of Stand and Riggend. It will also provide access to the Replacement Monklands Hospital at Wester Moffat, Airdrie.
The council is leading the development of the project as part of the Glasgow City Region City Deal.
This latest consultation is being carried out as part of the Pre-Application Notice (PAN), the first stage in the process of applying for planning permission.
An engagement exercise was held last November and the feedback from that and the first PAN consultation held in June has been incorporated into the current road route. This ensures it better integrates with local roads, improves access and active travel connections and lessens the impact on land, ecology, landscape and woodland.
The East Airdrie Link Road is designed to improve: journey times and transport reliability; connections between residential areas, town centres, business centres, employment and education; and air quality, by relieving congestion along the existing A73.
