Children in Gartcosh have given their seal of approval to a brand-new play area, that opened just beside Lochside and Blades Court in the village.
The £115,000 revamp was led by North Lanarkshire Council’s Community Partnership Team, with pupils from St Barbara’s and Gartcosh Primary Schools playing a key role.
When asked what they’d like to include, the children developed ideas that shaped the final design — from climbing frames to splash-proof drainage.
After a round of consultation sessions, their wish list was turned into a full spec for the new site. Pupils even got creative with a "design-a-sign" competition, adding their stamp to the park’s signage.
Councillor Geraldine Woods, Convener of Communities, said: “This fantastic new facility is a great new resource for families and children. It’s brilliant to see how involved the pupils were, and their excitement about the park says it all.”
The project was funded through the council's Local Development Programme and the Scottish Government’s Play Park Renewal Fund.
To mark the grand opening, contractor Kompan treated children from both schools to goody bags before they ran off to give the new equipment a thorough test.
