City Deal projects along the A8/M8

Improving sustainable transport links to Eurocentral

Find out about our new plans to improve accessibility to jobs at Eurocentral, Maxim and Newhouse.

Why change the Park and Ride proposal?

We had planned to provide a park and ride facility at Eurocentral, but unfortunately now is not the right time.

A new Eurocentral sustainable transport project is now proposed for the City Deal funding.

Feasibility study

To provide evidence there was a need for the park and ride, we carried out a feasibility study.

This study found that there is not enough demand at this time, to build the facility.

It recommended putting the project on hold until demand has increased.

We will continue to work with SPT to develop a future park and ride project with other funding.

Improving sustainable transport links

We now aim to improve sustainable transport links to Eurocentral, Maxim Park and Newhouse for businesses and employees .

We will create new active travel routes to connect employment areas at Eurocentral, Mossend and Newhouse with surrounding local communities and local rail stations. By delivering these, we will improve the accessibility of job opportunities by train, cycling and wheeling and provide alternatives to private cars.

What's happening now?

At the end of August 2022, the Outline Business Case for the A8/M8 Corridor Access Improvements project was approved by Glasgow City Region City Deal Cabinet. This included the sustainable transport improvements and enables us to develop and design our proposals.

This is a key stage in making sure the funding from the City Deal Infrastructure Fund is provided for the project.

What's happening next?

Our next steps are to develop design proposals for the project. We are planning to appoint consultants to prepare the detailed design in winter 2022.

We will work with partners and stakeholders and carry out public consultation during the design process.

We expect to to build the improvements in 2024.
