Tower regeneration

Information for residents

We plan to invest in current towers while demolishing others to make way for more suitable housing.

Our plans

We've identified more than 1,700 flats in phase one of the regeneration plan. It will take a number of years to rehouse people and carry out the demolition programme.

It is estimated that it will take at least five years before all blocks are demolished. Northburn Place in Airdrie has already been demolished. Holehills demolition has started and due for completion next year with Burnside due to commence in the new year.

51% of properties in the first phase blocks are already empty.

Tower refurbishments

Major refurbishments are planned for four Coatbridge towers: Blairgrove, Merryston, Glen and Millbrae Courts.

Substantial refurbishment work to the buildings will include upgrading the common areas, creating additional storage space for mobility scooters and increasing charging points for electric vehicles. There will also be improvements to lighting, new cladding and insulation to make properties more energy efficient and lifts will be upgraded too.

Front door replacement and fire safety check

As part of our investment plans we are currently fitting new upgraded front fire doors to every tower property as well as carrying out fire safety checks to ensure it meets all current health and safety requirements. The front door replacement programme is currently on target to  be completed later this year.

Emergency lighting update

The emergency lighting programme is now complete with emergency lighting now installed in all of our towers.

Sprinklers

To further increase safety we are installing a sprinkler system to our towers. Each individual occupied property as well as the common areas will have sprinklers fitted. The next phase of the sprinkler programme has been agreed and is estimated to start in 2020. All residents will be notified before any work is started.
