Shotts Community Priorities highlights 25/26

Youth Engagement and Consultation in Shotts and Wishaw

A series of sessions were successfully held to support community engagement, giving young people the opportunity to share their views, discuss issues that matter to them, and contribute to shaping future priorities and decisions within their communities.

How did the project come about?

Five workshops on raising awareness and increasing participation of young people within the Community Board structure were facilitated with young people living within the Fortissat and Wishaw areas. The workshops took place with the:

  • Calderhead High Pupil Council
  • Shotts Community Learning and Development Youth Forum
  • Pupil Voice group within St Aidan’s High School

What was the outcome?

The workshops encouraged excellent discussion and ideas and:

  •  Identified potential barriers and opportunities for more involvement amongst young people within the community board structure.
  • Raised awareness with the young people attending of the Local Outcome Improvement Plans (LOIPs) for the Shotts and Wishaw areas.

The project through community engagement identified key areas to focus on for the young people in being involved in the Community Board structure. They were able to set out design ideas for marketing materials which would highlight the Community Boards but be more youth friendly. They also discussed making videos to share good practice which could be shown at Community Board meetings rather than the young people attending meetings.
