Shotts Community Priorities Highlights 26/27

Stane Gardens Additional Benches

We're enhancing community engagement and supporting mental health, wellbeing and the environment.

How did the project come about?

From earlier Local Development Program projects for improvements within Stane Gardens, local residents provided feedback and completed an application for the installation of some resting benches throughout due to the extensive walking route of this nature walkway.

The group highlighted that:

  • many elderly and dog walkers used the route who would benefit from a resting sport
  • some of the spectacular views and scenery from a certain vantage point could also be taken in upon relaxation

helping with a sense of mental health and wellbeing

Young people using the walkway to school and also anyone who was infirm and or had a disability were also taken into consideration by the group.

What was the outcome?

Consultation was undertaken with the proposer of the LDP application with bench locations confirmed by residents and users walking the route.

The project commenced as a Community Engagement activity and priority but the completion result meets the Mental Health and Wellbeing LOIP for this area and also links to the environment LOIP providing a place for residents to enjoy their local environment and nature.
