Introduction
Town Action Plans have been developed for our established towns across North Lanarkshire to help deliver the long-term Town Visions for each area.
Following consultation with our communities, we have published Town Action Plans for Airdrie, Bellshill, Kilsyth, Motherwell, Wishaw and Shotts.
The Town Action Plans were subject to a minor review in 2025 to ensure they reflect best practice, completed actions and changes in funding priorities.
The Town Action Plans illustrate the developments which will take place over the short, medium and long term to deliver the Town Visions, which set out the direction of travel towards a new mixed-use town centre economy to meet the needs of the community.
The following pages set out the approved Town Action Plans for Airdrie, Bellshill, Kilsyth, Motherwell, Wishaw and Shotts.
We also intend to produce a Town Action Plan for Coatbridge to supplement the 'Regeneration Plan for Coatbridge' which follows a template required by the UK Government to enable access to £19.5m Pride in Place Programme funding.
Due to the large scale regeneration activity set to take place in Cumbernauld over the next decade, a Masterplan will be developed for the area. This will also be done through a series of public and stakeholder engagement over the next few years.
We will undertake a review of Town Action Plans every two years to allow the public to inform the scope and content of the Town Action Plans through a programme of public engagement which will include workshops with key stakeholders, engagement with Community Boards, public consultation and exhibitions, to promote a sense of ownership of the actions set out in the Action Plans.
You can also download the associated PDF documents which give you further information on what is being proposed in your town.
