Local Housing Strategy

Our vision and priorities for the future of housing and related service across North Lanarkshire.

The Local Housing Strategy (LHS) is the main overarching plan for housing. It sets out our housing priorities and the actions we will take to achieve our vision, which is:

Affordable and sustainable living for all 

A North Lanarkshire where every individual has access to safe, affordable and sustainable housing, fostering vibrant communities and enhancing quality of life.

The strategy plays an important part in delivering our ambition set out in The Plan to make North Lanarkshire the place to live, learn, work, invest and visit, and is closely connected and aligned to other key plans and strategies such as the Local Development Plan, the Town Visions, and the Economic Regeneration Delivery Plan.

The strategy will help deliver real improvements to people’s lives, by:

• Continuing to build much-needed new affordable homes, reducing poverty, boosting the local economy and improving outcomes.
• Improving the quality and energy efficiency of housing, helping reduce fuel poverty and helping achieve our net-zero climate change target.
• Delivering a range of support services to help people achieve their potential, be healthy and included.
• Helping create sustainable and attractive communities, through tackling empty homes and regenerating areas and places.

The strategy is an interim strategy covering a shorter two year period (2026- 2028) to enable better alignment with the new Local Development Plan and our Housing Need and Demand Assessment process, which we undertake with our wider Glasgow City Region local authority partners.

We will review progress each year on the actions contained in the strategy and publish the annual review report on this page.
