North Lanarkshire Council Ward 14 Thorniewood

Update - Tuesday 17 November 2020

The Scottish Government has announced that North Lanarkshire will move to level four of the coronavirus restrictions at the end of this week. While the new restrictions do not begin until Friday, the Returning Officer, following consultation with the Electoral Management Board for Scotland and the Scottish Government, has decided to postpone the by-elections due to be held on Thursday November 19 for wards 13 (Fortissat) and 14 (Thorniewood).

While case numbers are on a downward trend in Lanarkshire, they are still high. In reaching this decision, the Returning Officer has considered that it is inappropriate from a public safety point of view that the by-elections take place the day before level 4 restrictions come into force.

It is proposed that the by-elections are re-scheduled for March 4, 2021.

The schools that were proposed to be used as polling places will now be open as normal on Thursday.

Postal votes already returned will be securely destroyed.
