Garden waste permit

Service update - call waiting times

Our Customer Service Hub is currently receiving an unusually high number of calls. As a result, waiting times may be longer than normal and could exceed one hour.

We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience while our team works to support everyone as quickly as possible.

If your enquiry is not urgent, you may find it quicker to use our online services, where many requests can be made at a time that suits you.

Thank you for your understanding.

There is a charge for the collection of garden waste from your brown bin. If you want to place garden waste into your brown bin you should request a garden waste permit and display it on your brown bin.

Garden waste permits 2026/27

You can now buy a garden waste permit for 2026/27.

The permit is valid from 1 June 2026 until 31 May 2027.

A garden waste permit costs £42.

If you are a council tenant, you do not need to apply.
This service is included in your rent and your permit will be issued automatically.

It can take up to 21 days for a permit to be processed and delivered to your address. Your bin will not be lifted until the permit is attached.

If you have more than one bin each individual bin will require a permit to be purchased and displayed on the bin to ensure that it is collected.

Request a garden waste permit

The annual charge will be £42 and the permit will be valid from 1 June 2026 until 31 May 2027.

If you are a council tenant, you do not need to apply as you will automatically receive a permit.

Please read the frequently asked questions and terms and conditions.

We are one of the last councils in Scotland to introduce this charge, and the money generated will help cover the costs of delivering the service.

You will need a mygovscot myaccount to submit a permit request. Please ensure you set this up in advance to enable you to order a permit.

For information: mygovscot myaccount is the easy way to access public services online and is delivered by the Improvement Service, the go-to organisation for local government improvement in Scotland. The platform provides access to a range of public services, including getyournec.scot for National Entitlement Card applications, which uses mygovscot myaccount authentication and identity verification services.
