Dumbreck Marsh LNR & Garrell Burn

Dumbreck Marsh
A place to visit and explore

Dumbreck Marsh is an open area of countryside close to the centre of Kilsyth, North Lanarkshire. The site boundary covers an area of approximately 72 hectares.

The unique nature of the site with its variety of habitats including large areas of grasslands, woodlands, running water, and ponds mean the site is of huge importance and was designated as a Local Nature Reserve in 1996 for its valuable wetland habitats.

Dumbreck Marsh Local Nature Reserve (LNR) is an asset to the Kelvin Valley and surrounding area. As well as an important greenspace providing nature networks, the site has a good path network to allow visitors to get close to nature, appreciate the environment and discover the historical significance of the site.

The previously industrialised brownfield site has been completely transformed over the last few years with thanks to funding from the Water Environment Fund, National Lottery Heritage Fund, and North Lanarkshire Council and in partnership with Scottish Environment Agency and Centre for River Restoration.
