Dumbreck Marsh LNR & Garrell Burn

Community involvement

To celebrate the return of Salmon to the Garrell Burn a unique bespoke artwork was created. The Salmon Sculpture was designed following input from local schools, guides and scouts. Their drawings, collages, views and ideas helped to inspire the design of the sculpture that represents elements of the landscape, plants, animals, birds, fish, and macroinvertebrates found in the burn.

Conservation group

A Conservation Group with volunteers was set up to carry out practical work on site including repairs, maintenance and habitat & species related tasks. The group continue to meet ever second Tuesday from 10am-12pm. For more information on joining the group contact greenspace@northlan.gov.uk

This project could not have been completed without the involvement of people from Kilsyth and surrounding villages.

Thank you to the individual volunteers including students from New College Lanarkshire and local schools who carried out conservation work and those who participated in workshop sessions and activities that helped to make this project a success.

A huge thanks to the National Lottery Heritage Fund and organisations and individuals who assisted with the delivery of the initiatives.
