EALR consultation
East Airdrie Link Road - Stage 3 information
Our previous Stage 3 engagement helped our consultant design the new road.
As part of Stage 3, we looked more closely at things and we worked to develop the new road.
We took onboard the feedback that was already given us on the route of the road.
The things we proposed to do differently before meant:
- there is less impact on the environment
- the new road connects better with the current local roads, meaning more local people will benefit from it
Recent engagement
Consultation on the previous Stage 3 proposal was held over a seven-week period between 18 November 2024 and 10 January 2025.
The purpose of the consultation was to understand local views on the Stage 3 route, which has been used to help inform on changes made to the current design.

You can see what we planned to do earlier in the Stage 3 process on our previous StoryMap, before we developed things further.
Please see the new route information on the consultation page.

More about Stage 3 and our consultant
Our chosen consultants, AtkinsRealis, are helping us to undertake the next phase of design and prepare a planning application.
As part of this work, they are reviewing the proposed line of the route of the preferred option.
During this stage, there will more opportunities for consultation and engagement with key groups including landowners and residents.
This will let us have more detailed discussions with those who have an interest in the project especially as the design is developed and we better understand the exact route of the link road.
As part of the design process, the consultants will also be carrying out surveys that will be needed to develop the design and to inform the planning application, such as:
- environmental surveys
- ecological surveys
- additional ground investigation work
Further information and correspondence will be issued to all affected landowners.
Other information
The Outline Business Case (OBC) was approved at Glasgow City Region Cabinet on 6 August 2024.
Approval of the OBC has secured the next portion of funding to let us move to Full Business Case (FBC) and allow for the link road to be constructed. We expect to submit the FBC in summer 2027.
The road should be finished during 2030, but we will continue to review this and change dates as the project moves forward, if needed.
