Kilsyth and Villages Community Priorities Highlights 26/27

Youth engagement event in Kilsyth Academy

Youth engagement event held in Kilsyth Academy to allow for valuable information to be shared with local young people. This project linked in with the Kilsyth and Villages priority of youth engagement and consultation.

How did the project come about?

The Kilsyth and Villages youth engagement subgroup organised a youth engagement event at Kilsyth Academy on 17 June for S1–S4 pupils. The event provided an opportunity for young people to engage with local community planning partners and community organisations.

Activities on offer included BMX biking delivered by Social Track, graffiti design sessions led by a local artist, and interactive experiences with Police Scotland, including quad bikes, riot shields, a food stall, a drug awareness stall, and drunk goggles. Scottish Fire and Rescue Service provided water safety information, while the Community Partnership Team promoted period dignity products and the community priority consultation. Information on summer programmes was also shared by Community Learning and Development, and Active and Creative Communities.

What were the outcomes?

The event was well attended with approximately 170 young people. Feedback from these young people and Kilsyth Academy teachers was positive with everyone engaging well with partners and in a range of activities that were provided.
