Motherwell Community Priorities highlights 25/26

Community Engagement - Motherwell College Health and Wellbeing Academy

Community engagement took place highlighting the access to free period provision in North Lanarkshire, the event helped to support health inequalities and improvement along with tackling poverty.

How did it come about?

The Community Partnership Team was invited along to the health and wellbeing week along with other community partners like the NHS, this was to provide support across multiple aspects of students lives, such as money advice, routes to work, health improvement and access to free period products.

What was the outcome?

Students were provided access to free period products and made aware of the service as well as other services we provide. This helped to bridge the gap in the community with a vital age demographic engaging with the period dignity initiative.

A pop-up stall was held at Motherwell College at the main building offering access to free period products. There was engagement with over 40 students with many accessing products, discussing where to access products in the wider community and how to access further information for sharing purposes.

We also engaged with various staff members from lecturers and janitors alike, enquiring more about the project for both personal and professional purposes.

The event was a success having provided over 100 packs of products to students, along with vital information to support them and the wider community going forward.
