Motherwell town centre and rail station

Partnership plans transport hub

We are currently developing proposals to improve the transport interchange at Motherwell Rail Station.

This will help to increase the role of the station as a key transport connection hub in the future.

The proposal involves upgrading and improving the infrastructure around Motherwell train station to improve access to the station. It includes works to Muir Street and to the station forecourt, where new paved areas and street furniture will be designed to match what is currently on Muir Street.

Implementing these works will reduce congestion in the town centre and we are working with our partners ScotRail and Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT) to make it happen.

By working with ScotRail as they upgrade Motherwell Station, we will ensure the projects complement each other and make the most of the funding opportunities

We are also expanding the park and ride capacity for the station and enhancing the interchange between car/bus/bike and train. Cycling and walking links between the station and Strathclyde Park will also be improved.

We recently undertook a consultation on the proposals for Muir Street and we are currently assessing the comments you made.

While the consultation ended on 8th July and we can't accept anymore comments, you can still view the proposals.
