What's happening now?
We have appointed contractor Balfour Beatty to carry out the work.
The work started in January and is expected to be complete by July. It will be coordinated with the work at Motherwell Rail Station to reduce disruption to local businesses and residents.
Bus stop and taxi rank
The bus shelter on Muir Street has been removed for refurbishment and is expected to be reinstalled in June.
To make space to build a larger bus stop on Muir Street, the existing taxi rank and bus stop on Muir Street will need to be closed for a few months.
The taxi rank closed on Monday 14 March and the bus stop will close on Monday 21 March. The bus stop is due to reopen in early June and the new taxi rank is due to be open in July.
Whilst these facilities are closed, alternative and temporary facilities will be provided.
Taxis will be able to use the taxi rank at High Road across from the Heritage Centre. We will also provide a temporary taxi rank in the Hope Street car park, close to footpath links to the station, as soon as possible.
A temporary bus stop will be provided on Muir Street next to the Ladywell footbridge. Alternative bus stops are available nearby on Hamilton Road across from the library and on Merry Street in the town centre.
Alternative pedestrian routes will be in place to the station entrance during this work.
Road closures
Some road closures will be needed at weekends to carry out work on the Muir Street footpaths and roadway safely.
Further details of the dates of road closures during the work will be provided as soon as we have them.
