Transforming Places - Grow Uddingston

Grow Uddingston are a voluntary charity group dedicated to enhancing the local environment around Tannochside, Viewpark and Birkenshaw by supplying flora and voluntary services on a year-round basis to improve the local area.

How did it come about?

In 2025, having won a Gold award from Keeping Scotland Beautiful, retained the cup for the Best Urban Community and just recently been awarded the Kings Award for Voluntary Service. Grow Uddingston were motivated to keep the good work going aiming to improve and maintain the Uddingston Gateway, transforming the environment introducing trees and colourful flora to the welcome wall/gateway.

What was the outcome?

Grow Uddingston’s volunteers banded together to start landscaping the area around the Uddingston Gateway, cutting the grass, planting flowers along with a few trees to help transform the area around the signage. The aim was to improve the look of the welcome gateway, making it an improvement to the environment, the coming together of community volunteers helped to bolster community resilience and the improvements provide support in tackling mental health and wellbeing making the gateway a more welcoming sight for those travelling the local area
