Cumbernauld Community Priorities Highlights 26/27

Eastfield Fun Zone Play Area

A new play are has opened in Eastfield called 'Eastfield Fun Zone'. This new play area was funded through the Local Development Programme.

How did the project come about?

Pupils from Eastfield Primary School and Holy Cross Primary School working with the Community Partnership Team and engaged in the design consultation for the new play area, identifying what equipment they would like to see included within the new play area.

Using the pupil's ideas, the play area was designed and built. Once built, pupils from Eastfield Primary and Holy Cross Primary Schools attended the Official Opening Ceremony of Eastfield Fun Zone on Friday 15 May 2026.

Pupils also took part in a Design-A-Sign competition, where pupils could design the welcome sign to the play area and also choose the name for the play area. The winning pupils from each school were recognised for their creativity and contribution to the project and were presented with their own mini copy of the sign they designed as part of the celebrations.

What were the outcomes?

This project contributed to Cumbernauld Local Outcome Improvement Plan Priorities of Youth Engagement and Consultation and Greenspace and Environmental Improvements while also ensuring that children feel valued, included and part of local community decision making process.

This newly developed outdoor facility is a great addition to the community allowing for improved physical and mental health and wellbeing.
