Cumbernauld Community Priorities Highlights 26/27

Young Voices, Big Impact: Designing a playpark together

Young people across Cumbernauld worked together with the community to help design Allanfauld Road Play Area.

How did the project come about?

This play area was first identified due to local residents expressing a new play area is needed in the northern side of the Seafar area. Through this, we consulted with local young people from Ravenswood Primary and St Mary's RC Primary School on this issue.

The pupils participated in the consultation to identify the equipment they would like to see in the new play area and to design the sign for the play area itself. The project enabled children from the local primary schools to feel valued, included and an important part of community decision making.

The children involved will be invited along with the winning pupils from each school to recognise their creativity and contribution to the project. The competition winners will be presented with their own mini copy of the sign they designed at the official opening of the play area in September 2026.

What were the outcomes?

This project contributed to Cumbernauld Local Outcome Improvement Plan (LOIP) priorities of Youth Engagement and Consultation, and Communication and Engagement.

This project contributed to the local priority of Youth Engagement and Consultation Priority by working with local schools, pupil participation and parent council to identify opportunities to engage with and respond to the need of local children and young people.
