North Lanarkshire’s footprint
North Lanarkshire is the fourth most populated local authority in Scotland. For every person who lives in the area the equivalent of 5.2 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) is emitted. The carbon footprint includes more than CO2 such as methane, nitrous oxide and hydrofluorocarbons.
The latest North Lanarkshire footprint using the UK Government's statistics is 1,7901.2 kilotonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent. We have broken down the main emissions by sector and these are as follows:
