Airdrie Local Outcome Improvement Plan highlights 2025/26

Petersburn CCTV Coverage Improvements

A community collaboration project to support community safety in partnership with Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue.

What was done

The area has experienced elevated levels of antisocial behaviour, illegal dumping, and other criminal activities, which had a detrimental impact on residents.

The project was undertaken to address persistent crime and fly tipping in identified hotspot areas and to strengthen community safety and environmental protection. A targeted CCTV installation was delivered with funds allocated from our Local Development Programme with delivery and implementation by our  Community Safety Team. This was done to create a more comprehensive monitoring network with three new cameras strategically installed to supplement the existing CCTV infrastructure.

Outcome

The cameras have been positioned to maximise visibility of key access points and areas of known fly tipping, with three new cameras installed, ensuring that key areas previously not covered by CCTV are now within the scope of active surveillance.

By expanding the CCTV coverage, the camera network will assist with the detection and prevention of:

  • crime
  • anti-social behaviour
  • environmental incidents and
  • increasing public health and safety

Furthermore it will support enforcement actions, and provide valuable evidence to assist investigations.

The enhanced coverage not only strengthens the deterrent effect but also supports real-time monitoring and response capabilities. Over time, the data gathered will help inform future interventions and resource allocation while contributing to a safer, cleaner, and more resilient community environment.
