St. Andrew’s Day Winter Warmer Event November 2025

The St Andrews Day 2025 Winter Warmer Event was organised to support community engagement and improve general wellbeing for community members through shared activities during the celebrations season. Its purpose included: 

  • enhancement of community wellbeing through the promotion of available local services
  • strengthening of intergenerational connections among young and old community members
  • empowerment of young community members through provision of relevant services and resources
  • supporting future planning for Airdrie through their contribution to the Local Outcome Improvement Plans consultation
  • fostering partnership and collaboration across relevant local organisations. 

The event was jointly organised by the Airdrie Action Partnership (AAP), a collaborative network comprising of:

  • third sector organisations
  • officers from North Lanarkshire Council (NLC) Community Partnership Team
  • NHS Health Improvement Team and
  • Voluntary Action North Lanarkshire (VANL)

What was done

Building on the success of the Winter Warmer Cost of Living event held in February 2025 and after securing a grant from North Lanarkshire Council for a follow-up event, another Winter Warmer Event was held on Friday, 28 November 2025 at The @ Home Centre. The event had a St Andrew’s Day theme and participants learnt about the range of services that offers support and advice in Airdrie while enjoying free of charge:

  • a selection of pieces
  • shortbread
  • tea and coffee

Outcome

16 organisations provided information stalls and Fool On a local mental health support charity that supports people through performing arts provided excellent entertainment for community members. 

As a result of this event: 

  • Community members gained greater awareness of the wide range of local supports and services available within the Airdrie area.
  • Improved access to services will help enhance the overall wellbeing and quality of life for community members.
  • Intergenerational engagement will strengthen relationships and reduce barriers between age groups.
  • Young people are benefiting from practical experience, skill development, recognised qualifications, and enhanced future education and employment opportunities.
  • Key community insights were gathered through the Local Outcome Improvement Plans consultation to help inform and improve future planning and local priority setting.
  • Services, charities, and organisations gained valuable opportunities to network, collaborate, and build stronger partnerships with community members.
  • Increased interaction across generations will challenge stereotypes and promote mutual respect and understanding.
