Reductions to Non-staffing Budgets within the Music Service

Contribution to Council budget strategy to be considered on 26 February 2026.

If this is a budget saving, how will the saving be achieved?

The Education & Families Service has undertaken a critical review of the current funding availability and expenditure profile within the instrumental music service. This analysis has highlighted a budget cut can be applied whilst maintaining the existing operating and delivery model. 

Give details of the impact it has on groups and individuals 

Stakeholders are The Instrumental Music Team. Educational establishments and staff, especially the departments delivering music and drama. Pupils, especially the pupils receiving tuition from the Instrumental Music Team. Families, parents, guardians of pupils, especially the pupils receiving tuition from the Instrumental Music Team.

Desktop Exercise: Review of previous years expenditure profile within these budget areas. An approved Instrumental Music operating model.  Confirmed Scottish Government Funding Model for instrumental music provision.

What actions/measures will be put in place or are planned to mitigate any adverse impact or promote equality? 

Not applicable.

What is the result/recommendations of the EqIA 

Introduce the policy.
