Cardowan Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), Frankfield Road
Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) has officially opened in Cardowan.
How did the project come about?
The project was developed following initial engagement with Cardowan Community Meadow regarding possible development of an unused red blaze pitch.
After confirming the proposal was feasible, the Community Partnership Team carried out consultation with young people from St. Joseph’s Primary School and Stepps Primary School, which confirmed the need for a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) facility. This was a successful consultation process that included decision-making on the final MUGA design with local young people. As a result, children and young people have reported satisfaction with the MUGA facility.
There was also a questionnaire that was completed in March 2023 by residents living near the proposed MUGA site to consult with locals on their thoughts on this project.
The Cardowan MUGA officially opened on 19 March 2025 and was attended by local young people and residents.
What was the outcome?
As a result of creating a new play facility in the Cardowan area, families now have regular access to a local and free facility. This has ensured parents do not have to travel out with their community or pay for access to play/leisure facilities.
Playing regularly at the facility will also improve the health and wellbeing of children.
