Community Safety Information Sessions with Young People

Police Scotland and Scottish Fire & Rescue Service inputs with schools and youth organisations.

How did the project come about?

Requests were received from schools and local youth organisations for inputs on specific issues and forthcoming events. From June to December 2024, staff from Police Scotland and Scottish Fire & Rescue Service engaged with schools and organisations to jointly deliver inputs around crime and community impact, online safety, No Knives Better Lives, cyberbullying, drug awareness and Bonfire Night/fireworks.

What was the outcome?

Specifically, the following sessions were carried out:

Chryston High 
• No Knives Better Lives: 12 inputs to approximately 360 pupils across 2nd and 3rd year.
• Online Safety: 6 inputs to approximately 180 pupils on image sharing, cyberbullying and general online safety. This was rolled out across year groups during 2024.

Chryston Primary School
• 3 Inputs to approximately 90 pupils in P5/6 and P7 on internet safety/cyberbullying.
• School talks with P1 and P2 at Chryston Primary re quad bikes.

St Joseph’s Primary School
• Online / general internet safety: inputs on internet safety, image sharing and cyber bullying. 

Glenboig Nursery
• Police attended nursery to meet children and raise awareness of the Police and how they help to keep people safe. 

Moodiesburn Beavers
• Police met with Moodiesburn Beavers to engage with children and discuss topical issues. A further visit was then carried out to ensure all attendees had the opportunity to speak with local officers and see police vehicles and equipment.
