Improving access through Ravenscraig

Next steps and timeline

The project will be delivered as part of the Glasgow City Region City Deal.

This is a large and complex project that will take several years to complete and will need to be delivered in different phases.

Work started during 2022 and is not expected to finish until 2026.

The first thing we have done is create a new railway bridge that the road will go under and connect with Ravenscraig.

The dates we expect the different works to start

Ravenscraig Access Infrastructure South

  • Building the bridge crossing under the West Coast Main Line Railway - completed May 2023.
  • Building the dual carriageway from Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility to Motherwell and the junction at Airbles Road/Windmillhill Street - advance works begin summer 2023, main works begin during 2024.
  • Completing the dualling of Airbles Road - begins 2025.

Ravenscraig Access Infrastructure North

  • Upgrading 3km of the A723 from the New Craig Road junction at Ravenscraig to the M8 at Holytown - 2024.

When the project is fully approved, these dates may change and if we can, we may look to start work earlier.
