Our Fun Boats will be closed on Saturday 27 July at Strathclyde Country Park due to the Home International Rowing Regatta.

Improving access through Ravenscraig

Next steps and timeline

The project will be delivered as part of the Glasgow City Region City Deal.

This is a large and complex project that will take several years to complete and will be delivered in different phases. This will ensure the new infrastructure is delivered when it's needed, while also ensuring investment in the development of the masterplan is maintained and our financial commitment is managed alongside its many priorities.

The first thing we have done is create a new railway bridge that the road will go under and connect with Ravenscraig.

The dates we expect the different works to start

Ravenscraig Access Infrastructure South

  • Completing the bridge crossing under the West Coast Main Line Railway - completed September 2023.
  • Building the dual carriageway from Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility to Motherwell and the junction at Airbles Road/Windmillhill Street:
  1. Site clearance and building demolition works begin summer 2024.
  2. Advance groundworks to end autumn 2025.
  3. Main work to begin at the end of 2025 and be completed during spring 2027.
  • Completing the dualling of Airbles Road to begin early 2028 and finish spring 2029.

Ravenscraig Access Infrastructure North

  • Upgrading 3km of the A723 from the New Craig Road junction at Ravenscraig to the M8 at Holytown - the construction programme to be updated during 2024.

On 10 May 2024, our Enterprise and Fair Work committee approved removing Ravenscraig (North) - dualling of the existing A723 from our City Deal projects. This depends on it being approved at Glasgow City Region Cabinet on 6 August 2024.

If approved, funding for this project will go to the Ravenscraig (South) and East Airdrie Link Road projects instead
