RAI South Demolition work
Work required for new road
We are connecting Motherwell with Ravenscraig to enable the regeneration and development of the site.
To do this, we have to remove a number of buildings on Windmillhill Street and Manse Road.
This work will let us improve the existing roundabout on Windmillhill Street and create a dual carriageway into Ravenscraig using the bridge that goes under the West Coast Main Line.
To let us do this we have appointed a contractor to demolish four buildings close to the roundabout at the top of Airbles Road at Windmillhill Street.
We expect the work to start mid-late August and involve the demolition and clearance of the buildings and all structures, including foundations at these former businesses:
- Cook & Indi’s / Yesss Electrical - Manse Road
- Evans Halshaw Car showroom - Windmillhill Street
- Evans Halshaw yard and building - Windmillhill Street
- Stylista Hair Institute - Windmillhill Street.
They will also be required to take down and rebuild the listed boundary wall to the graveyard of the South Dalziel Historic Building.
We expect the work to be complete by the end of November 2024.
Sites included in the demolition work
The site will be left cleared with:
- ground levels the same as adjacent areas
- any voids/basements/excavated areas will be filled in
- a secure boundary to each site
What we will expect the contractor to do
Dust
- follow regulations relating to dust exposure
- reduce airborne dust during demolition work
Noise
- follow regulations relating to noise levels
- not work outside normal working hours or create noise from the site on Sundays or Bank Holidays
Site security
- maintain a secure site all the time to preventing unauthorised access to the site
- make sure suitable measures between site operations and neighbouring areas are in place
Traffic and pedestrian management
- traffic control measures for site entry and exit points are agreed
- pedestrians are always kept safe
Although work is taking place near footpaths, we don't expect any to be closed. If this happens we will let you know.
The project is part of the wider infrastructure work required to support and enable regeneration and development of the site of the former Ravenscraig steelworks.
