Cumbernauld bike maintenance for young people
This project supports the Local Outcome Improvement Plan priorities of youth engagement and consultation and targeted action within the identified communities (Carbrain).
On 17 November, Carbrain Community Events, in partnership with the council, hosted a bike maintenance event at The Link Centre, Cumbernauld.
The Youth Engagement and Consultation Priority Subgroup identified the need for this event as a priority for Carbrain. The aim was to help young people recycle, reuse and restore their old bikes, promoting health and wellbeing while easing financial pressures on families.
To deliver the event, the subgroup collaborated with our restorative justice team, who provided hands-on bike repairs and demonstrated basic maintenance skills. Young people learned how to care for their bikes and prevent future damage.
As a result, eight bikes and scooters were repaired, enabling young people to ride safely within their community. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with participants delighted to have their bikes and scooters back in working order.
