The project was developed by our Community Partnership Team in partnership with Moodiesburn Community Action.
The aim for this project was to improve the local play facilities for young people, which will impact positively on young people's mental and physical wellbeing, confidence and self-esteem. In addition, this project helps address the Northern Corridor Local Outcome Improvement Plan Priorities of Children and Young People and Moodiesburn.
Pupils from both St. Michael’s and Glenmanor primaries took part in engagement sessions, sharing ideas that directly influenced how the space would look and what equipment it would include.
The finished play area features colourful, modern equipment chosen with input from the young people themselves. Improvements to the site’s drainage were also completed, helping ensure the area can be used throughout the year.
To make the space even more welcoming, pupils entered a Design‑a‑Sign competition, creating imaginative concepts for the entrance signage.
Councillor Geraldine Woods, Convener of Communities, said: “We’re really pleased to see this new play area open in Moodiesburn. What makes it so special is the contribution from local children, who helped shape the project from day one. Their ideas guided the design and even the signage, showing what can be achieved when we listen to young people and work together with the community.”
The project was supported through the council’s Local Development Programme.
At the official opening, pupils from both schools gathered to celebrate, collecting goody bags from the contractor and immediately putting the new equipment through its paces.
