As part of the Northern Corridor Local Development Programme (LDP), the Community Partnership Team has completed the installation of a new outdoor classroom in Bluebell Park, Stepps, located beside the council’s play park facility.
The project was shaped directly by local children, who highlighted the need for a safe and welcoming space to explore outdoor learning. Young people identified opportunities to learn more about the environment, including nature-based sessions involving bird feeders, shrubbery, plants, bug hotels and the development of new flower beds.
The outdoor classroom is designed to enhance the health and wellbeing of children and young people by supporting regular access to outdoor activities. This aligns with the Northern Corridor Children & Young People Local Outcome Improvement Plan priority, helping ensure that local voices influence meaningful improvements in their own communities.
The proposal was developed following engagement sessions with pupils from Stepps and St Joseph’s Primary Schools. During these consultations, young people expressed a strong interest in learning outdoors to complement their classroom experiences – and this new facility now brings that vision to life.
