Cumbernauld Village parking engagement

We’re asking the Cumbernauld Village community to share their views about parking in the local area.

Cumbernauld Village is a busy community, with a great mix of residential areas, shops, businesses and community facilities, all of which place a demand on local parking. We want to know what is and isn’t working, so we can develop solutions and make improvements to the areas identified.

We want to hear about your parking experiences within the area, which might include:

  • Challenges parking near your home: for example, a lack of resident-only on-street parking, overuse of residential parking by shoppers, visitors, or workers, presence of abandoned vehicles on residential streets, parking on pavements, lack of enforcement, unclear road markings and signage, or a lack of parking for visitors, trades or carers.
  • Challenges parking near shops and businesses: for example, not enough parking for employees, lack of parking for customers, parking times not meeting the needs of customers, not enough restrictions on parking times, permitting a better customer turnover, lack of disabled parking bays, lack of proper loading spaces, unclear parking signage.
  • Challenges parking near community facilities: for example, not enough parking near doctors, dentists and other healthcare services, too many cars parked around schools at pick-up/drop-off times, limited parking near leisure facilities.

As part of understanding how parking could be improved in the future, we also want to hear your ideas for how road space could be used differently. 

We are not proposing any changes at this stage. The purpose of this engagement is to identify whether there are parking issues within the area that need to be addressed. The community will be formally consulted should any changes be proposed, at a later date.

Engagement

From Monday 17 April 2023 to Monday 22 May 2023, we are inviting you to share your feedback with us about parking issues in Cumbernauld Village.

Your feedback will help us better understand parking needs in Cumbernauld Village and shape any future proposals.

In addition to the survey, we will also be holding three virtual drop-in sessions, where you will be able to book a 15-minute time slot to speak with the project team and share your thoughts and ideas. The dates of these sessions are:

  • Tuesday 2 May 2023 between 11am and 2pm
  • Wednesday 3 May 2023 between 5pm and 8pm
  • Thursday 4 May 2023 between 9am and 12pm

People who live together, families, members of staff and community group members can be present on a call together.

About the project

What is the purpose of this consultation?

The purpose of this consultation is to find out what is and isn’t working, with the aim of developing solutions which may feed into formal proposals at a later date.

Are there any existing proposals?

There are currently no formal parking proposals for the Cumbernauld Village area. The purpose of this consultation activity is to identify key issues and areas for improvement, which may be developed into formal proposals at a later date.

Why have you decided to engage on parking in Cumbernauld Village?

Through correspondence from the community and an understanding of the area, we have identified that there may be a number of parking-related issues in Cumbernauld Village.

These issues include:

  • Lack of residential parking provision in areas such as Main Street.
  • Insufficient parking and parking controls surrounding shops and businesses, leading to a lower turnover of customers.

The consultation is designed to capture all of the existing parking issues in the area and improve our understanding of local priorities, which may be used to develop formal proposals at a later date.

This consultation also looks at street space reallocation, in the event that parking is moved or removed in the future.

I don’t drive, how will any future proposals benefit me?

Though this consultation largely looks at issues and ideas surrounding parking, we are also interested in ideas for how spaces might be reallocated in the event that parking is relocated or removed in the future.

About the consultation

I would like to speak to a member of the council about my thoughts/ideas, with regard to this engagement. How can I do this?

We will be holding three drop-in sessions between Tuesday 2 May 2023 and Thursday 4 May 2023. If you would like to speak to the project team about your thoughts/ ideas, you are welcome to register for a 15-minute time slot.

During these sessions officers from the council, alongside consultants from Project Centre Ltd., who are helping facilitate this engagement, will be on hand to answer your questions and make note of your feedback.

I don’t use Microsoft Teams, am I still able to take part in the drop-in sessions?

Yes. If you do not have the Teams application on your device, you can still dial in to the meeting via your web browser with no need for additional software. This can be accessed from a mobile device or computer. Instructions on how to join Teams will be sent out alongside the meeting link.

To join via phone, you will find a phone number and conference ID in the meeting invite. Just dial the number to join. Calls to this number will be at your standard network rate.

If you are not able to register for the drop-in sessions online, or do not use email, please call 01236 222360 and we can arrange for a member of the project team to call you to discuss your thoughts and ideas.

I don’t live, or work in Cumbernauld Village but I am a regular visitor, can I take part in the survey?

Yes, we are accepting responses from all individuals who live, work or visit Cumbernauld Village. 

I can’t complete the online survey, how can I have my say?

As part of the consultation, all addresses within the Cumbernauld Village area received a leaflet with an attached freepost survey.

If you are unable to complete the survey online, please complete the hard copy survey and return it in the freepost envelope provided.

Can I have assistance completing the survey?

If you would like someone to go through the survey with you over the phone, please get in touch using one of the above contact methods and we will arrange a date and time for a call.

When does the consultation close?

The consultation will close at midnight on Monday 22 May 2023.

Will my postal submission be accepted if it arrives after the consultation end date?

We will do our best to make allowances for feedback received by post after the consultation closure date and will accept forms received up to one week after the closing date.

This date may change, subject to any planned industrial action by Royal Mail around that time.

How will feedback from this consultation be used?

Feedback received as part of this consultation will be analysed. Following this process we will outline a series of recommendations. These recommendations may then be used to develop formal proposals, which will be presented to the community as part of a future consultation.

Will the consultation report be made public?

Yes, the feedback report will be posted on the project website once it has been finalised.

If proposals are developed, will there be a further public consultation?

Yes, if design proposals are developed, and changes need to be made to the existing parking restrictions in the area, we have a statutory duty to undertake consultation. Thereafter, and depending on the feedback received, the proposals may need referred to a council committee for approval.

Is it possible to be notified when/ if future proposals are developed?

We advertise all consultations. Please keep an eye on the website for reference.
